Finance Apprentice

The Finance section supports the operations of the GMC. We process invoices, expense claims, pay staff salaries, collect registration fees from doctors, buy goods and services, help set budgets and manage the GMC’s finances. The finance assistant will provide support to the finance teams to ensure the delivery of a high quality

 

The Finance assistant will support all teams and gain experience in the different area of a finance department.

  • Assist the procurement team with supplier management, supporting tendering activity, and liaison with internal customers in respect of selected services provided by the procurement team
  • Support the management accounts team with month end processes
  • To assist the payroll and expenses officers to accurately process and pay fees and expenses for Council members, associates and staff
  • To support all aspects of invoice administration, including reconciling supplier statements
  • To help with the billing, collection and banking of doctors’ fees, ensuring that accurate records are maintained
  • To assist in producing timely management information showing volumes, processing times and trends
  • To ensure all work is carried out in line with the GMC’s regulations and policies, and to maintain established internal control procedures
  • Any other reasonable duties as may be assigned from time to time

 

Desired skills

  • Effective use of IT systems such as: MSWord, Excel and Outlook essential
  • Excellent keyboard skills to ensure that information is entered quickly and accurately into the financial accounts software
  • The ability to work within established policies and procedures to defined key performance indicators and service level agreements
  • The ability to develop knowledge and understanding of GMC structure and polices, operational procedures at team level and routes to registration
  • The ability to establish credibility with customers, suppliers, visitors and colleagues across the GMC

  • The ability to work constructively as a member of a team and also on your own initiative
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with colleagues and external parties
  • Takes the initiative for own personal development.
  • To demonstrate excellent customer service in all interactions with internal and external stakeholders

Desired qualifications

  • 5 GCSEs A-C including maths and English or equivalents

Future prospects

L6 Finance assistant with supported study towards AAT progressing towards a L5 Finance assistant once AAT qualified and experienced

 

Training provider

Full on-the-job training and support will be provided to enable the successful applicant to undertake the full range of duties required of the role. All apprentices are required to complete and evidence 20% of the job learning whilst on their apprenticeship. In addition, the apprenticeship will be delivered primarily on our online platform, Babington Online and you will receive full support from our dedicated team of Training Advisors via workshops, webinars and regularly scheduled reviews, conducted by Skype and/or Phone.

Our Business Administration Level 3 Programme consists of the following:

  • Business Administration Level 3 Standard ·
  • Functional Skills in Literacy and Numeracy Level 2
  • End-point Assessment conducted by an external provider (Presentation or project, interview and knowledge test)

The end-point assessment is designed to enable apprentices to demonstrate that they are fully conversant in the skills knowledge and behaviours expected of individuals at this level. It is designed to provide assessors with a holistic view of the apprentice, and to allow them to assess to what extent the apprentice meets or exceeds the apprenticeship standard.
