Writing your application
We’ll normally ask you to complete an online application form and equal opportunities monitoring form. For certain jobs we’ll ask you to upload your CV and a covering letter. Specific details will be provided for each vacancy.
Make sure you give some thought to the opportunities on offer and how they match your skills and experience. We recommend using our applicant guidance notes to help you make the most of your application.
Disability Confident Interview Scheme
The GMC has committed to the Disability Confident employer scheme and supports the requirements of the Disability Confident interview scheme. If you have a disability and meet the essential criteria for a role as outlined in the person specification document, you will be offered an interview.
Please note that declaring a disability is an individual choice. If you choose to disclose a disability, it will be used only to meet the requirements of the Disability Confident interview scheme and for making agreed reasonable adjustments in the recruitment process. The only people who have access to this information is the resourcing team and recruiting manager.
If you are successful and require a reasonable adjustment to support you in your role, we will discuss this with you and your manager before you start.
We're committed to making the recruitment process accessible. For example, providing application forms in a different format. We can make adjustments to the recruitment process, such as altering interview arrangements. Or we could send correspondence in a different format. Please contact us by email or call 0161 923 6626 to discuss any requirements you have.
Tracking your application
We’ll send you an email to confirm that we’ve received your application. We’ll keep you in the loop at each stage of the recruitment process. You can also view the status of your application by logging onto your profile and viewing your application history.
When will I find out if my application is successful?
Shortlisting usually takes around two weeks from the closing date of the vacancy.
If you are successfully shortlisted for a role, we’ll ask you to attend an assessment centre or a competency based interview. Our assessment centre tests normally include an interview, but not always. We’ll ask you to come back at another date for a competency based interview if it’s not included the assessment centre.
Assessment centres allow us to do a number of different tests over the space of a few hours. The tests include psychometric testing, group discussion, written tests and case studies or role play. If you’re invited to a competency based interview rather than an assessment centre then some of these tests may be included alongside your interview.
If you are shortlisted for an interview or assessment centre we’ll be in touch by email at least a week before the stated assessment or interview date.
If you haven’t been successful you’ll still hear back from us. You can also ask for feedback by emailing recruitment@gmc-uk.org which will be sent within six weeks of your request. If you’re still interested in working at the GMC you can register for alerts in the job portal. We’ll then notify you when vacancies matching your criteria become available.
