Tribunal Clerk (12 month FTC) (GMC3641)

Tribunal Clerk (12 month FTC)

The MPTS provides the adjudication function for UK doctors. We protect patients by making independent decisions about a doctor’s fitness to practise, measured against professional standards set by the GMC. We have powers to impose sanctions on a doctor’s practice, where necessary, to protect the public.

Are you naturally personable and well-organised? Do you have excellent writing skills? If you also have a strong background in supporting Committees/Boards/Tribunals, you should consider joining the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS) in Manchester as a Tribunal Clerk.

You’ll be instrumental in providing sound support to our Medical Practitioners Tribunals. You will be involved in a range of tasks including:

  • co-ordinating pre-hearing activities, including the preparation, distribution and proof reading of documentation;
  • making necessary arrangements for the provision of hearing logistics and support services;
  • providing a coordinating role during hearings (both in person and virtually), liaising with tribunal members and parties as necessary;
  • listening to Tribunal discussions and drafting their decisions in formal narrative determinations;
  • co-ordinating hearing follow-up actions using bespoke computer systems and maintaining the Medical Register;
  • providing support to the policy development process as required and contributing towards one-off projects;
  • supporting and assisting in the preparation of management information;
  • liaising with a number of teams across the business.

Significant experience using programs like MS Office and bespoke databases are essential, as is your understanding of the General Data Protection Regulations. You’ll need to maintain a sensitive and professional approach at all times, and have the confidence to contribute feedback that might affect and improve internal processes too. Maintaining confidentiality is essential.

You’ll be required to provide administrative support to hearings both virtually and (working from home) at our hearing centre in central Manchester. The successful candidate will be required to partially attend the MPTS offices with a mix of home working to carry out the role.  A full risk assessment will be carried out.

The scheduled start date for these positions is 14th June. All successful candidates will need to be available for full time induction for the first seven weeks of their employment.

If further Tribunal Clerk vacancies arise within the next 6 months, appointable candidates from this round of recruitment may be made an offer, if appropriate.

In return, you’d benefit from being part of an organisation that is genuinely committed to its people. Within our friendly and flexible working environment, you’d have access to a range of learning and development opportunities designed to support your ongoing progression.  We offer an attractive salary and benefits package.  We strongly believe that diversity of background and experience contributes to the broader collective perspective that will consistently lead to us being a better regulator. We are working hard to increase the diversity of our staff, and also the diversity of those we work with wherever we can and we would actively encourage applicants from diverse backgrounds to apply.
