Here at the General Medical Council we are working to launch a new national assessment and are looking for someone to fill our psychometrician role.  This will be a key, senior member of the team developing the assessment. For a highly accomplished and ambitious psychometrician, opportunities like this for career progression are exceptionally rare.

This role can be carried out from any of our GMC offices however travel to other offices will be required.

We want someone eager to become the most highly regarded psychometrician in the UK, we require someone who can use data to analyse how candidates perform in the assessments and we need someone who can report their findings back to a variety of audiences including the GMC, medical schools, the postgraduate training community  and the wider healthcare sector. You’ll be shaping the way new doctors are assessed. You’ll be influencing the standards for new doctors and the public confidence in the medical profession throughout the UK.

An exceptional communicator, engaging presenter and natural leader, you’ll work with and inform colleagues at all levels of the organisation as well as engaging regularly with a range of interest groups. You’ll identify potentially contentious issues and anticipate problems in developing and implementing new processes and procedures. You’ll need to demonstrate tact, sensitivity, political judgement and an awareness of the wider health sector environment.

We’re looking for someone who’s qualified at a postgraduate level in a numerate discipline . You’ll need a proven track record in research and analysis and you’ll be highly competent in statistical software such as SPSS or R.

This role is critical to the successful development, implementation and running of the assessment which will run across sites in the UK and internationally. To achieve its aim, the whole programme must be recognised as a credible, high-quality assessment.

This is an opportunity to work within one of the largest healthcare regulators within the UK. In return, you’ll benefit from being part of an organisation that is genuinely committed to its people. We offer an attractive benefits package that includes a 15% employer contribution pension scheme, and a generous holiday allowance. For more information about what we can offer, click here.
