Policy Officers (x3) (GMC3348)

Policy Officers (x3)

London or Manchester

Are you interested in a policy and implementation role that will give you the opportunity to contribute to our work to develop and implement professional guidance for doctors on standards of good medical practice?

The General Medical Council helps to protect patients and improve medical education and practice in the UK by setting standards for students and doctors. We support them in achieving (and exceeding) those standards, and take action when they are not met.

In this key role you’ll be part of the team that develops new – or updates existing – guidance and supporting materials on good medical practice. A large part of your role will be to support improvements to how we help doctors implement our guidance, for example by collaborating with colleagues across the GMC to design, plan and deliver promotional campaigns and online learning resources and supporting the development of case studies and other tools taking a ‘digital first’ approach. Your role will also involve engaging and influencing the broader external policy environment; for example by leading and/or contributing to consultation responses and engaging with ethical live issues.

With your policy or engagement background, we’ll expect you to quickly acquire knowledge of our guidance and the key legislation that supports our work. As well as having strong research, analysis and writing skills, you’ll also need the ability to communicate with people at all levels, including senior managers, plus the professionalism and confidence to engage and facilitate discussions with a diverse range of audiences. You’ll also respond to enquiries from doctors, patients, health service providers and others seeking advice on our guidance, so tact and sensitivity are key requirements.

You can find out more about the guidance we publish here.

In return, you’ll benefit from being part of an organisation that is genuinely committed to its people. We offer an attractive salary and benefits package to find out more please click here https://jobs.gmc-uk.org/why-join-us.html

We strongly believe that diversity of background and experience contributes to the broader collective perspective that will consistently lead to us being a better regulator. We are working hard to increase the diversity of our staff, and also the diversity of those we work with wherever we can and we would actively encourage applicants from diverse backgrounds to apply.

The GMC is a charity registered in England and Wales (1089278) and Scotland (SC037750).
