Policy Officer x 3 (GMC3225)

Policy Officer x 3

London Level 4 - £30,805 to £39,978

Salaries dependent on experience

Do you want to work in a well-respected, supportive and highly performing team?

Are you ready to play a key role in delivering policy that will protect patients and maintain public confidence in doctors?

Do you have experience of contributing to policy development, excellent communication skills and an ability to develop innovative, evidence based solutions?

If you’re enthusiastic, seeking a rewarding new challenge and can answer ‘Yes’ to the above questions, we want you to apply to join our Fitness to Practise Team at the General Medical Council (GMC) in our London office.

The GMC is an independent regulator which protects patients and improves medical education and practice in the UK by setting standards for students and doctors. We also support them in achieving (and exceeding) those standards, and take action when they are not met.

If successful, you will play a key part in protecting the public by developing the policies needed to support fitness to practise procedures which are fast, focused and fair. Fitness to practise policy is continually evolving and its impact extends across the GMC. You’ll be part of an innovative team working to ensure that our decision making is proportionate and effectively addresses any risk to patients or public confidence. In 2019, this will include exploring how we work with the NHS and local employers to remove duplication in our approach to investigations and a review of our sanctions guidance for tribunals.

We’ll expect you to quickly acquire knowledge of fitness to practise policy and the wider work of the organisation. You’ll need the ability to communicate with people at all levels, including senior managers, plus the professionalism and confidence to facilitate and participate in policy discussions.

Your busy workload will involve supporting the development of new policies, drafting high quality guidance and fielding queries on complex policy issues. You will engage with a wide range of stakeholders so excellent interpersonal skills are a must.

A great organisation to work for, we can offer you good opportunities to develop your skills and career and such benefits as a 15% employer contribution pension, 25 days holiday a year with the option to buy and sell, health screens, private medical insurance, interest free ticket loans, flexi-working and more.
