Learning and Organisational Development Apprentice

As an L&OD team we support colleagues across the whole GMC by giving them the training and development they need to carry out their roles, reach their full potential and develop their careers. We do this by providing a range of learning and development resources to support people during their career journey; from induction, to on the job training, to development opportunities for their next steps.

As a key member of our exciting team you will provide support to the whole of the organisation to help our colleagues grow. We want to be at the forefront of modern and engaging ways of learning so you’ll get the chance to be creative and develop some unique skills.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Working collaboratively with and providing support to colleagues within the L&OD team
  • Managing our events calendar including, scheduling training sessions and learning events, preparing materials and meeting with facilitators
  • Monitoring and responding to email and telephone queries from colleagues across the organisation
  • Providing high quality administrative support across a variety of projects
  • Maintaining staff records on our learning management system, Aspire

  • Great verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Ability to work well as part of a team
  • IT skills – ideally Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel
  • A commitment to delivering excellent customer service – may not have the skills yet

  • A love of learning, a desire to continually learn and develop, willingness to stretch themselves
  • Willingness to take ownership and work independently (we’ll obviously build up to this)

Desired qualifications

  • Five GCSEs A-C including maths and English (9-4) or equivalent

Future prospects

It all depends on the individual. They will have access to all our learning and development resources and following completion of their apprenticeship will be able to apply for all permanent roles, secondments and development secondments at the GMC.  One previous apprentice is now a Business Analyst and one applied for and successfully completed our first line manager programme.


Full on-the-job training and support will be provided to enable the successful applicant to undertake the full range of duties required of the role. All apprentices are required to complete and evidence 20% of the job learning whilst on their apprenticeship.

In addition, the apprenticeship will be delivered primarily on our online platform, Babington Online and you will receive full support from our dedicated team of Training Advisors via workshops, webinars and regularly scheduled reviews, conducted by Skype and/or Phone.

Our Business Administration Level 3 Programme consists of the following:

  • Business Administration Level 3 Standard
  • Functional Skills in Literacy and Numeracy Level 2
  • End-point Assessment conducted by an external provider (Presentation or project, interview and knowledge test)

The end-point assessment is designed to enable apprentices to demonstrate that they are fully conversant in the skills knowledge and behaviours expected of individuals at this level. It is designed to provide assessors with a holistic view of the apprentice, and to allow them to assess to what extent the apprentice meets or exceeds the apprenticeship standard.
