About us

We work with doctors, physician associates (PAs), anaesthesia associates (AAs), those they care for and other stakeholders to support good, safe patient care across the UK. We set the standards doctors, PAs, AAs and their educators need to meet, and help them achieve them. If there are concerns these standards may not be met or that public confidence in doctors, PAs, or AAs may be at risk, we can investigate and take action if needed.

The role

If so, this is a fantastic opportunity to join the General Medical Council (GMC) as the Executive Assistant to our Chief Executive.

As an Executive Assistant, you will:

  • Provide high-level executive support to the Chief Executive, ensuring their diary, priorities, and commitments are managed seamlessly.
  • You’ll play a pivotal role in enabling the Chief Executive and Chair to deliver their strategic objectives, working closely with the Office of the Chief Executive and Chair (OCCE) team and senior stakeholders across the organisation.

 This role goes beyond diary management—you will be part of a team that advises the CE; triaging priorities, coordinating key engagements, and ensuring the Chief Executive is fully prepared for every meeting, event, and discussion.

 

The person

We are seeking a highly organised and proactive professional with proven experience supporting senior executives in challenging, complex and political environments.

  • You are a confident communicator, able to quickly build credibility with all colleagues (senior leaders) and external stakeholders, while remaining discreet, professional, and committed to confidentiality.
  • You possess strong problem-solving skills, and can  and make decisions. based on a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • You thrive in a high-performing, close-knit team, and can collaborate with colleagues while knowing when to escalate, delegate, or advise.
  • You have experience in a Private Office or similar high-pressure setting, or are able to demonstrate the capacity to operate effectively in one.
  • You will also demonstrate outstanding administration, diary, and inbox management skills, with the ability to juggle multiple priorities promptly, accurately, and efficiently.

Working Arrangements

This is a hybrid role, combining home and office working. You will be expected to work in the office at least one-two days per week on average, with additional days during the induction period and when necessary to support the Office of the Chair and Chief Executive. We welcome requests for flexible working arrangements in line with our policy.
