Working with doctors, working for patients

Investigation Officer

£24,000 rising to £25,000 after successful completion of Probation period. Salary range £23,999 to £32,031 with an exceptional maximum of £35,292.

The General Medical Council helps to protect patients and improve medical education and practice in the UK by setting standards for students and doctors. We support them in achieving (and exceeding) those standards, and take action when they are not met.

As part of that remit, we’re looking for Investigation Officers to help our Investigation team examine complaints, allegations of misconduct and other concerns that call a doctor’s fitness to practise into question.

It’s an office based role, and you’ll liaise with doctors, healthcare organisations and members of the public to gather evidence before passing the case on for a decision. You’ll work within strict legal and regulatory frameworks and there are always plenty of cases to handle as it’s a very busy, fast paced environment. All your cases will be time-targeted, so you’ll need to have a meticulous, methodical approach to caseload management. We’re looking for people who have experience in complex casework, possess strong written skills, and have the ability to deal with people politely and assertively.

In return, you’ll benefit from being part of an organisation that is genuinely committed to its people. We offer an attractive salary and benefits package.

Closing date: 19 July 2018

Interviews and assessments: 1 or 2 August 2018 for the Assessment Centre and 8 or 9 August for face to face interviews
